H2NexGen And UNIMAS’ Hydrogen Cell Project Sees Encouraging Reduction In CO2 Emission And Diesel Fuel Saving

H2NexGen, a leading provider of innovative hydrogen cell technology, and UNIMAS (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) have successfully concluded their collaborative pilot project aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and diesel fuel costs. The project, which aligns with UNIMAS’ “Low Carbon Campus Roadmap 2030” and Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, demonstrated remarkable results over the pilot project period from September 19 to November 2.

Key Project Objectives and Achievements

The primary objective of the pilot project was to reduce CO2 emissions within the UNIMAS campus, with an additional focus on achieving diesel fuel savings. The collaboration between H2NexGen and UNIMAS proved instrumental in attaining the following key outcomes:

1. CO2 Emission Reduction: The introduction of H2NexGen’s hydrogen cell technology, known as Ultimate Cell, led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions of at least 27%. Data collected from the UNIMAS bus showed a decrease from 43,740 ppm (parts per million) to an average of 29,215.42 ppm.

2. Diesel Fuel Savings: The pilot project resulted in a 38% reduction in diesel fuel consumption. The technology achieved this by enhancing the combustion process in the engine, leading to improved engine performance.

3. UNIMAS-wide: From the pilot project’s achievements, upon full roll-out to UNIMAS’ vehicles fleet, annual reduction in:

a) CO2 is projected to be around 294.1 tonnes or carbon credit earning of MYR5,440.85 (based on BCX’s carbon price of MYR18.50 per tonne)

b) Diesel fuel is projected to be around MYR239,600.

Project Timeline and Device Activation

The project was meticulously executed in two phases. In phase one, data was gathered before the hydrogen cell was switched on, to establish baseline CO2 emission and fuel consumption levels.

Subsequently, in phase two the hydrogen cell was switched on, leading to the observed reductions in emissions and fuel consumption.

Acknowledgment and Team Collaboration

H2NexGen extends sincere appreciation to the UNIMAS team for their dedicated support in tracking and managing daily data. The collaborative effort overcame minor challenges, such as sensor issues, demonstrating the effectiveness of a strong team working towards a common goal.

Future Plans and Impact

With these positive results, discussions are underway to implement the technology in Unimas’ bus fleet.

H2NexGen is also eager to engage with other prospects interested in reducing their carbon footprint and lowering diesel fuel costs.
