Sustainable & Green Carbon Black

Carbon Black

Carbon Black is a highly engineered, fine, black powder composed primarily of elemental carbon. It is manufactured under controlled conditions to create specific particle sizes and structures, making it one of the most widely used nanomaterials globally, whose conventional production is a major emitter of CO2.

Four Key Performance Properties

Particle Size:
Ranges from about 10 nm to 500 nm. Smaller particles lead to a higher surface area, resulting in deeper blackness, better conductivity, and higher reinforcement.
Structure (Aggregate Size/Shape):
Primary particles fuse into permanent, three-dimensional clusters called “aggregates.” High structure means these clusters are long and branched, which improves dispersion, electrical conductivity, and compound stiffness.
Surface Chemistry:
The presence of oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface, which affects how well the CB interacts with and disperses in its host material (e.g., rubber, plastic).
Porosity:
Can be controlled during production, affecting surface area and conductivity, especially in conductive grades.

Market Transition

Approximately 90% of all Carbon Black is consumed by the rubber industry, with the remaining 10% used in specialty applications. The market’s future is defined by two key forces:

  • The Green Transition: There is intense pressure to decarbonize the production process, which currently relies heavily on fossil fuel feedstocks and is energy-intensive. This is driving major investment in “Sustainable” or “Green Carbon Black” technologies.
  • Shift to Specialty Grades: While standard tire-grade carbon black remains the highest volume product, the market is moving towards higher-margin specialty grades that offer superior performance in advanced applications such as carbon fibre, nanotube, activated carbon, graphite and graphene.

H2NexGen’s green carbon black is produced from bio-Methane feedstock, using non-thermal combustion plasmalysis technology thus conventional thermal combustion’s high-emission is effectively avoided.

This high-purity, green, low-carbon, drop-in carbon black solution enables immediate decarbonisation impact for the industrial carbon market. The green carbon black provides industries with a clear path-way to supply chain sustainability and compliance.
